Oranges;

After doing some research, I have found the interesting history of oranges.

The first set of oranges were grown in the North Eastern part of India, Southeast Asia and the South of China.

Oranges first cultivates in China in 2500BC

It wasn't until the first centuary AD that the Roman's took young orange trees from India to Rome.

Christopher Columbus planted orange orchids in Haiti using seeds he bought in 1493.

By 1518 Panama and Mexico alo got their first taste of oranges, shortly after Brazil started frowing their own.

Oranges are high in Vitamin C which is important for a healthy immune system.

They are full of antioxidants that help protect your skin from damage.

Oranges are packed with vitamin B6 which help support the production of haemoglobin.

Due to the magnesium in oranges, oranges help keep your blood pressure in check.

Oranges could help lower the risk of cancer and help promote good eye health.

Please do your own research about oranges, there is so much more to discover.

Orange Marmalade is often known for having a bitter flavour;

After reading https://www.monpetitfour.com I discoverd that the bitterness comes from undercooked orange peel and the use of the pith (the white bit of the orange).

To stop this from being the case, using a method created by Jacques Pepin, I have boiled the orange peel 3 times for 10 minutes before adding any other ingredients.

You wont regret using this method! It makes the most delicious orange marmalde!

I hope you love this as much as I do!

Marisa

Orange Marmalade - Fills a 500g Jar

Ingredients

2 Oranges - You can use any oranges

2 Cups Granulated Sugar

½ a Lemon Juice

8 Cups Water - Please see above why you need so much water.

Method

Use a potato peeler to peel your oranges. This makes the peel much thinner and makes it easier to remove the pith (thick white part of the orange.)

Cut the peel into thin slices

Remove the thick white part of the orange and separate the segments of your oranges.

Fill a saucepan with 2 cups of water

Bring to a boil and then add the orange peel for 10 minutes.

Drain the water from the saucepan

Add 2 cups of water to your orange peel, in the saucepan, for 10 minutes.

Drain the water from the saucepan.

Add 2 cups of water, once again, for 10 minutes.

Drain the water from the saucepan. Please see above why we repeat this part 3 times.

Add 2 cups of water to your saucepan along with the orange slices, sugar and lemon juice.

Bring the mix to a boil and leave for roughly 6 minutes.

Reduce the heat to a simmer.

Let simmer for 40-50 minutes or until the mix thickens

Stir your mix every 5-10 minutes to stop it from burning

Take the pot of the heat and let it cool

Transfer to a jar and place in the fridge until completely set.

Serve

Enjoy!
